Project Title: Novel light sources based on photonic crystal fibers with nanostructured cores

Project Description: The goal of the research grant is to exploit capabilities in the creation of soft glass photonic crystal fibers with structured cores, which allow the generation of a continuous spectrum from the visible to the mid IR with a highly efficient wavelength conversion. The novelty of the proposed project is based on the fabrication of highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers with structured cores made of two different glasses or air-glass structures with subwavelength features. The project cover several tasks as modeling of nonlinear phenomena in fibers, design of nonlinear photonic crystal fibers, design and development of highly nonlinear soft glass, development of photonic crystal fibers. The main tasks for a candidate will be as follows: modeling of nonlinear phenomena in photonic crystal fibers, development of modeling methods for nonlinear fibers with nanostructured features, participation in design and characterization of photonic crystal fibers as well as in characterization and development of broadband and tunable fibers light sources. 

Requirements: 

- Experience in some of the following fields is required: (a) nonlinear fiber optics, (b) modeling of electromagnetic properties of optical media, (c) nanooptics, (d) gradient index optics. 

- very good knowledge of English 

- Involvement at work 

- Team working ability and ability to independently conduct research 

- Good knowledge of modeling methods in particular ability to the model linear and nonlinear phenomena in complex optical media

Payment: A scholarship of 5000 PLN/month will be provided.
